Nuphonic was a fantastic label that put out really great singles, albums and compilations. The label folded in 2002 and Sav Remzi, who co-owned Nuphonic with Dave Hill, started the equally great Tirk imprint in 2003. The single reviewed below got quite a hammering in 1996 from a number of San Francisco and international DJs, and rightly so.

Diesel of Rocky & Diesel, X-Press 2 and Ballistic Brothers fame provides fellow Ballisto Dave Hill’s Nuphonic imprint with a disco-tinged, wild-pitch style thang. This comes with a set of beats and the Original Mix on the A side, and on the flipsideĀ Faze Action person Simon Lee, who is no relation of Dave Lee, Bruce Lee or Christopher Lee, throws down two lovely mixes.

The first is a guitar dub featuring a live guitar making a variety of nice noises amid a gentle background of synthy lusciousness. The second mix is somewhat similar, but has a more driving feel akin to the Original Mix. It should also be noted that Dave Hill is no relation of Benny Hill, Vince Hill or Jimmy Hill, but is responsible for some very nice records, this being another one. Chris Orr
