I can’t remember who sent me these excellent edits, and if I did remember I wouldn’t tell you. His name may have had the initials BG, but I can’t be 100% sure. I have three or four volumes of this bootleg series in my collection. I thought I had five, but I can’t find the first Rick James/Prince volume, called Secret Mixes Fixes Vol. 4 – Star Wars. Regardless, Volumes 1 and 2 are great and you should track them down if you don’t have them.

Fixinthemixes Vol. 1 and Vol. 2
Secret Mixes Fixes/US/12
Mysterious white labels featuring tracks that will create havoc on the dancelloor. Volume 1 comprises the long-lost, vocal version of the sadly missed Armando’s acid monster, “Land of Confusion,” a version of Saunderson’s mix of Wee Papa Girls, and an Aphex mix of Gerald. Volume 2 brings tunes by Front 242, Ron Hardy favorites Liaisons Dangereuses, LA electro legend Unknown DJ (remixed by Basic Channel) and Vanity 6. Bootleg business, but essential in any DJ’s crate. Find, and soon. Chris Orr
